BIS Hallmarking Mandatory For Gold Jewellery

Not be able to sell Gold jewelry without hallmarking, Hallmarking is not available for more than 50 percent of jewelery.

Government of India is going to make hallmarking mandatory for gold jewelery. According to a report, Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said that the proposal to make BIS hallmarking mandatory for gold jewelery has been approved by the Indian Ministry of Commerce. And it can be implemented soon after informing the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to the government, BIS has set standards for hallmarking for 14 carat, 18 carat and 22 carat gold.

After this decision of the Central Government, the buyers of gold jewelery are very happy, they feel that this will reduce the adulteration in gold and they will get a quality product.

India is one of the largest importers of gold and it imports around 700-800 tonnes of gold per year.

- BIS hallmarking is a system of authenticating gold purity

- Bureau of Indian Standards has a triangular mark on the original hallmark.

- This mark of BIS certifies that the jewel meets the standard of Bureau of Indian Standards

- There is also a hallmarking center logo with gold purity (carat) on it.

- It contains the year of producing jewelery and also the logo of the producer.

- In India hallmarking is not mandatory on gold jewelery, so only some jewelers selling jewelery with  hallmark.

- Currently, about 40 percent of jewelery is hallmarked in the country.

- Currently, there are only 800 hallmarking centers across the country.

- If you are buying gold jewelery, then before making payment, make sure that the hallmark is real or fake

After the implementation of this proposal of the central government, gold jewelry without hallmarking will not be sold.
